There is nothing to sign up for here, so there is nothing for you to hand over. No accounts, no newsletter, no contact form, no comments.

What we collect

Page views, through Google Analytics 4. It records which page you are on, which page you arrived from, and coarse technical details like country, browser and screen size. It is what tells us whether any of this is being read. There are no accounts and no forms here, so there is nothing in it that names you, and we never upload anything to it that could.

What advertising collects

Pages carry advertising, and the ad network sets cookies and receives your IP address and browser details in the ordinary way.

Where you are changes what is stored

If you are reading this from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, Google's scripts start in a refused state: no analytics cookie, no advertising cookie, no advertising identifier. Your visit still registers as an anonymous count with no way back to you, and the ads are chosen from the page rather than from anything about you.

We do that instead of showing a consent banner. A banner most readers dismiss without reading buys the site a permission it did not really get, and costs every reader an interstitial on a page they came to for a recall number. Not collecting the data is the cleaner side of that trade.

Everywhere else, including the United States, the cookies are set normally. You can refuse them in your browser, and Google publishes its own controls at My Ad Center and the Analytics opt-out. Nothing on this site stops working if you block them.

What we do not do

• No lead generation. Your details are never collected or sold.
• No email list.
• No cross-site profile of you built by us.
• No consent banner, because in the places one would be required nothing is stored to consent to.

The complaints on this site

The complaints quoted on this site are public records published by NHTSA. We strip links out of them and do not quote any that still carry someone's contact details. If you filed one and would rather it did not appear here, write to [email protected] with enough of the text to find it, and it will be removed at the next build.

Getting hold of a person

[email protected] reaches the one person who compiles this site. Corrections are the most useful thing you can send: every number here is derived from a public file by rules written down in how this is counted, and a rule that is wrong is wrong on thousands of pages at once.
