Look up a VIN

Seventeen characters, on the driver's doorframe or the bottom of the windshield. It is also on your insurance card and your registration.

Your VIN goes to NHTSA to be looked up. We never store it.

What you get

Recalls on your exact car

A recall covers a range of cars built in a particular window, not a whole model year. Two cars off the same line six weeks apart can differ, and your VIN is what settles which side of the line yours is on.

The free fix

Every recall comes with a remedy the manufacturer has to carry out at no cost to you, however old the car is. It is written out in full.

What other owners report

Beyond the recalls: what people driving the same car have complained about, and whether it is under investigation but not yet recalled.

What it will not tell you

Whether a recall on your car has already been carried out. Only the manufacturer knows that, and any franchised dealer will check it against your VIN for free.
