STRUCTURE:EMERGENCY:ESCAPE/EGRESS/EXIT:LATCHING/RELEASE SYSTEM
- The defect
- Gillig, LLC (Gillig) is recalling certain 2013 Low Floor transit buses. The emergency exit window latch may fail, allowing the window to open during a crash. As such, these emergency exit windows fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 217, "Bus Emergency Exits and Window Retention and Release."
- What it can cause
- A window that opens during a crash may not properly retain passengers, increasing the risk of injury.
- What the dealer does
- Gillig will work with Arrow to replace the emergency release bar assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 21, 2026. Owners may contact Gillig customer service at 1-800-735-1500.
The repair is free, whatever the age or mileage of the vehicle, and whether or not you are the original owner.
Which vehicles
A recall reaches a range of VINs inside these model years, not every car built in them. Yours may not be covered even if it is listed here, and the only way to find out is NHTSA's own VIN lookup .

How this campaign compares
At 6 vehicles this is a small campaign: 94% of the 19,818 vehicle recalls filed since 1995 whose size NHTSA published are as large or larger. The middle campaign on file covers 472. It covers one model year, 2013, so the oldest vehicles on it were 12 model years old when the defect was reported to NHTSA.
Gillig vehicles have been recalled over the structure 3 times before this, most recently in April 2021 as 21V291000. That is not evidence the earlier repair failed.
The vehicles on this campaign carry 2 other recalls published here: 20V392000 (steering), 20V179000 (electrical system).
Check your own car
A VIN check is the only answer for a specific vehicle, and it also shows every other open recall on it, which is usually the reason it is worth doing rather than reading one campaign.
Filed by Gillig, LLC with NHTSA on December 15, 2025 as campaign 25V868000. Every word of the defect, consequence and remedy above is NHTSA's published record of that filing, not a summary of it.
