The defect
Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo Trucks) is recalling certain 2025-2027 VNL (4) and 2026-2027 VNR (4) vehicles equipped with a tanker application package. Inaccurate axle load calculations may cause reduced braking performance while transporting smoothbore tanker trailers.
What it can cause
Reduced braking performance can require a greater distance to stop, increasing the risk of a crash.
What the dealer does
Dealers will install new software to disable the dynamic trailer braking calculations, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 27, 2026. Owners may contact Volvo Trucks' customer service at 800-528-6586. Volvo Trucks' number for this recall is RVXX2610. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will become searchable on NHTSA.gov on October 5, 2026.

The repair is free, whatever the age or mileage of the vehicle, and whether or not you are the original owner.

Which vehicles

A recall reaches a range of VINs inside these model years, not every car built in them. Yours may not be covered even if it is listed here, and the only way to find out is NHTSA's own VIN lookup.

How this campaign compares

At 392 vehicles this is a small campaign: 52% of the 19,842 vehicle recalls with a published size filed from 1995 up to this one are as large or larger. The middle campaign among them covers 472. It covers model years 2025 to 2027, so the oldest vehicles on it were one model year old when the defect was reported to NHTSA.

The vehicles on this campaign carry 16 other recalls published here, the newest being: 26V513000 (exterior lighting), 26V444000 (steering), 26V350000 (wheels), 26V260000 (service brakes, air).

Check your own car

A VIN check is the only answer for a specific vehicle, and it also shows every other open recall on it, which is usually the reason it is worth doing rather than reading one campaign.
