The defect
KTM North America, Inc. (KTM) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Husqvarna TR650 Terra and TR650 Strada motorcycles manufactured January 1, 2012, to December 31, 2013. The affected motorcycles may unexpectedly stall.
The risk
A stall increases the risk of a crash.
The remedy
The remedy for this recall is still under development. KTM issued an interim notification to owners on August 16, 2016. The recall began April 2017. Owners may contact KTM customer service at 1-440-985-3553.

This Preliminary Evaluation (PE) was opened on February 25, 2016 after ODI received 20 complaints alleging MY 2013-14 Husqvarna TR650 motorcycles were stalling while underway.Four of the complaints alleged low speed crashes occurred as a result.Following the opening of this investigation, and discussions with Husqvarna, the company decided to conduct a safety-related recall addressing the stalling problem and has filed a part 573 defect information report (DIR) on March 1, 2016.At the time the company was still searching for an effective remedy. THIS BIKE IS PRONE TO "LEAN STUMBLE", THE BIKE RANDOMLY DIES WHEN ACCELERATING AWAY FROM A STOP DUE TO LEAN TUNING TO MEET EPA STANDARDS WHICH CAUSES THE BIKE TO RUN VERY LEAN IN "CLOSED LOOP" (IDLE CIRCUIT). THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES SINCE OWNING THE BIKE. ON THIS INSTANCE I WAS PULLING AWAY FROM A STOP LIGHT WHEN THE BIKE DIED CAUSING THE DRIVER BEHIND ME TO BUMP MY REAR TIRE THUS PUSHING ME FORWARD AND OFF OF MY BIKE. TO KEEP THE WARRANTY, I NEEDED TO HAVE A 65-7500MILE SERVICE WHICH I TOOK TO THREE DEALERS AND NONE OF THEM HAVE BEEN ABLE TO PERFORM THE SERVICE REQUIRED AND THERE IS ZERO SUPPORT FROM HUSQVARNA TO THE DEALER OR MYSELF ABOUT WHAT TO DO.
