- The defect
- Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2026 Lexus TX350, RX350 Hybrid, RX350, RX500 Hybrid, TX500 Hybrid, Toyota Grand Highlander, and Grand Highlander Hybrid vehicles. Due to a manufacturing error, the front steering knuckles may crack and break, which can result in a loss of vehicle steering control.
- What it can cause
- A loss of vehicle steering control increases the risk of a crash.
- What the dealer does
- Dealers will inspect and replace the front steering knuckles, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 2, 2026. Owners may contact Toyota's customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's numbers for this recall are 26TA19 and 26LA09.
The repair is free, whatever the age or mileage of the vehicle, and whether or not you are the original owner.
Which vehicles
A recall reaches a range of VINs inside these model years, not every car built in them. Yours may not be covered even if it is listed here, and the only way to find out is NHTSA's own VIN lookup.
How this campaign compares
At 617 vehicles this is a bigger campaign than 53% of the 19,823 vehicle recalls with a published size filed from 1995 up to this one. The middle campaign among them covers 472. It covers one model year, 2026, and the defect was reported to NHTSA in 2026, at or before the oldest model year it covers — as current as a recall gets.
Toyota vehicles have been recalled over the steering 20 times before this, most recently in January 2025 as 25V040000. That is not evidence the earlier repair failed.
This site holds the complaint record for 3 of the 6 model years the campaign names. Their owners have filed 56 complaints with NHTSA, 24 of them before this campaign was filed. 1 of those name the steering, the system this recall is about — a count of complaints, not of this defect.
The vehicles on this campaign carry 4 other recalls published here: 26V437000 (power train), 26V179000 (equipment), 26V162000 (back over prevention), 25V744000 (back over prevention).
Check your own car
A VIN check is the only answer for a specific vehicle, and it also shows every other open recall on it, which is usually the reason it is worth doing rather than reading one campaign.
Filed by Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing with NHTSA on September 17, 2026 as campaign 26V598000. Every word of the defect, consequence and remedy above is NHTSA's published record of that filing, not a summary of it.
