- The defect
- Volvo Bus Corporation (Volvo Bus) is recalling certain 2009-2025 Volvo 9700 buses. The emergency exit label on the entrance door is missing the exit operating instructions. As such, these vehicles fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 217, "Bus Emergency Exits and Window Retention and Release."
- What it can cause
- The missing information may prevent or delay the use of the emergency exit, increasing the risk of injury.
- What the dealer does
- Prevost will replace the emergency exit identification labels, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 3, 2026. Owners may contact Prevost's customer service at 1-866-870-2046. Prevost's number for this recall is SR26-84. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning September 25, 2026.
The repair is free, whatever the age or mileage of the vehicle, and whether or not you are the original owner.
Which vehicles
A recall reaches a range of VINs inside these model years, not every car built in them. Yours may not be covered even if it is listed here, and the only way to find out is NHTSA's own VIN lookup.

How this campaign compares
At 1,236 vehicles this is a bigger campaign than 61% of the 19,826 vehicle recalls with a published size filed from 1995 up to this one. The middle campaign among them covers 472. It covers model years 2009 to 2025, so the oldest vehicles on it were 17 model years old when the defect was reported to NHTSA.
Volvo Bus vehicles have been recalled over the equipment 6 times before this, most recently in July 2025 as 25V469000. That is not evidence the earlier repair failed.
The vehicles on this campaign carry 14 other recalls published here, the newest being: 25V469000 (equipment), 24V893000 (equipment), 24V524000 (steering), 24V083000 (steering).
Check your own car
A VIN check is the only answer for a specific vehicle, and it also shows every other open recall on it, which is usually the reason it is worth doing rather than reading one campaign.
Filed by Volvo Bus Corporation with NHTSA on September 18, 2026 as campaign 26V600000. Every word of the defect, consequence and remedy above is NHTSA's published record of that filing, not a summary of it.
