A complaint is an unverified account by the person who filed it, not a finding of fault. One complaint is one ODI number, which is how NHTSA counts them.

A recall is the manufacturer conceding a defect, and the repair is free. Whether one covers your particular car is a question only its VIN can answer, because a campaign covers a production range rather than a model year.

Crash test ratings

NHTSA New Car Assessment Program

NHTSA crashes a car into a barrier and a pole and measures what happens to the dummies inside. This is what it awarded the 2011 Chevrolet SUBURBAN 1500, and it is a separate question from what owners report going wrong later.

A rating belongs to a tested body style and drivetrain, not to the model as a whole, which is why more than one is listed. A dash means NHTSA did not rate that test for this vehicle.

WHILE IN PARK IN OUR DRIVEWAY, ENGINE TURNED OFF, AND KEYS IN MY HAND THE SUBURBAN ROLLED BACKWARDS DOWN OUR DRIVEWAY, KNOCKING ME DOWN AND ROLLING OVER MY LEG WHERE IT THEN STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. 911 WAS CALLED AND I WAS TRANSPORTED FROM THE SCENE TO THE HOSPITAL WHERE I WAS ADMITTED. WHILE COMMUTING TO WORK ON INTERSTATE 15, NORTHBOUND ON FEBRUARY 1, 2017, WITH MY TWO SONS IN THE VEHICLE, I SMELLED SMOKE. I PULLED OVER TO INVESTIGATE AND REALIZED THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT WAS ON FIRE (PICTURES ATTACHED). I NOTICED THE SWITCH FOR THE HEATED SEAT WAS ON, SO I TURNED IT OFF. I THEN PROCEEDED TO THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP IN BUTTE, MT (APPROX. 15 MILES) AND HAD THEM DISCONNECT THE ELECTRICAL TO THE SEAT AND ENSURE IT WAS NOT STILL BURNING. THIS DISABLED THE POWER SEAT, SEAT HEATER AND PASSENGER FRONT AIRBAGS. I CONTACTED GM PRODUCT SERVICES TO INFORM THEM AND THEY STARTED A SERVICE REQUEST, NUMBER 8-2712194856. THEY INSTRUCTED ME TO TAKE IT TO THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP IN

FOR THE PAST FEW MONTHS MY 2011 SUBURBAN WILL RANDOMLY NOT WANT TO SHIFT FROM PARK INTO DRIVE. THE GEAR SHIFTER ACTS LIKE IT IS STUCK. I HAVE TO PUMP THE BRAKE SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE IT WILL ENGAGE. OVER THE WEEKEND MY HUSBAND HAD MY CAR KEYS IN HIS POCKET, OUR 4 YEAR OLD SON CLIMBED INTO THE DRIVERS SEAT AND STARTED TO HOP OVER THE CENTER CONSOLE TO GET TO PASSENGER SIDE. MY HUSBAND WAS GETTING IN IMMEDIATELY AFTER HIM TO SIT IN DRIVERS SEAT. WHEN MY SON HOPPED OVER, HE ACCIDENTLY GRABBED THE GEAR SHIFTER AND MY CAR ROLLED DOWN THE DRIVEWAY INTO OUR CAMPER. SINCE THE CAR WAS NOT ON, NO KEYS IN THE IGNITION, MY HUSBAND'S ATTEMPTS TO STOP IT FAILED. THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH DAMAGE TO TURN INTO OUR

If this is your car and a dealer keeps failing to fix it, your state's lemon law may require the manufacturer to replace it or buy it back. How many repair attempts it takes, and how long you have to file, is set by the state you bought in and by nothing on this page.

Where these numbers come from

A complaint is one owner's account and has not been verified by NHTSA or by us. A vehicle with more complaints is not necessarily worse: models that sold in larger numbers collect more of them. How this is counted.
