20V199000 · April 6, 2020

The defect
PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain 2008-2019 Peterbilt 330, 335, 337, 340, 348, 365, 367, 384, 386, 387, 388, 389, 567, 579 and 587 vehicles and 2008-2020 Kenworth T170, T270, T370, T660, T680, T800, T880, and W900 vehicles equipped with NAMUX Software. In the event that the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) loses battery and/or ignition power to the controller, the dash warning light for the ABS may not illuminate to warn the driver of the loss of ABS. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 121, "Air Brake Systems," and 136, "Electronic Stability Control System on Heavy Vehicles."
The risk
If the driver unknowingly operates the vehicle without the ABS functioning, there would be an increased risk of a crash.
The remedy
PACCAR will notify owners, and dealers will update the NAMUX software within the cab control module, free of charge. PACCAR issued owners an interim notification on June 4, 2020. The recall began May 26, 2020. Owners may contact Kenworth customer service at 1-425-828-5888 or Peterbilt customer service at 1-940-591-4220. PACCAR's number for this recall is 20pbc AND 20KWB.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

18V816000 · November 16, 2018

Since both intermediate side marker lamps and reflex reflectors are required, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
The risk
Missing reflex reflectors can reduce the vehicle's visibility to other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy
PACCAR will notify owners and dealers will install reflex reflective tape, free of charge. The recall began January 15, 2019. Owners may contact PACCAR customer service at 1-918-259-3258. PACCAR's number for this recall is 18KWF, and 18PBC.

The risk
A short in the spotlight circuitry may increase the risk of a fire at the cab fuse block.

The defect
PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain model year 2011-2016 Kenworth T440, T470, T660, T680, and T880 trucks manufactured January 14, 2010, to May 22, 2015, and equipped with HID Headlamps and the option for Daytime Running Lamps (DRL). The DRLs are required to deactivate when the hazard warning lights are activated, however, the DRLs on these vehicles override the hazard flashing functionality after the brake pedal is pushed for more than two seconds. Normal hazard flashing functionality returns once the service brake is released. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
The risk
If the hazard warning lamps are overridden by the DRL, oncoming vehicles may fail to be warned, increasing the risk of a crash.

The affected trucks are built with a driveshaft that may not transmit power to the wheels due to weld failure from corrosion.
The risk
If the weld fails causing a loss of power to the rear wheels, the vehicle operator may be unable to move the vehicle, or may experience deceleration if the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
The remedy
PACCAR will notify owners, and dealers will replace the defective driveshafts, free of charge. The recall began on July 15, 2015. Owners may contact Kenworth customer service at 1-425-828-5000, or Peterbilt customer service at 1-940-591-4000. PACCAR's number for this recall is 15KWJ and 515-H.

APPARENTLY THERE IS A FAILURE OF THE FUEL PUMP IN MOST MODELS OF THIS CUMMINS ISX15 MOTOR, THA WHEN IT DOES FAIL, SHUTS THE TRUCK DOWN ON HIGHWAY, OR WORSE, LIK EIT DID TO ME....SEND METAL SHAVINGS INTO THE REST OF THE MOTOR DESTROYING THE MOTOR. THERE HAVE BEEN RECALLS FOR CERAMIC PLUNGERS, WHICH I DON'T HAVE...AND RECALLS ON MANY YEARS THIS MODEL WAS MANUFACTURED. I HAVE AN EXTENDED MAJOR COMPONENT WARRANTY THAT CUMMINS WILL NOT HONOR SINCE THE FUEL PUMP FAILURE IS NOT COVERED.....DEALER HAS WITNESSED MANY FAILURES OF THE FUEL PUMPS AND NOT ALWAYS COVERED...EVEN THOUGH REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT OF ENGINE IS IN EXCESS OF $20000 TO $35000 FOR A NEW REPLACEMENT. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED WITH

A VIBRATION IS FELT DURING WARM UP AND BECOMES VERY NOTICEABLE AFTER SHIFTING INTO 8TH GEAR. IF THE AIR COMPRESSOR KICKS IN WHILE THE ENGINE IS BELOW 1300 RPMS THIS ALSO INCREASES THE VIBRATION , AGAIN REAL BAD SHIFTING INTO 8TH AND AIR COMPRESSOR RUNNING .NOTE: I JUST BOUGHT THIS TRUCK FROM KENWORTH SALES COMPANY , SALT LAKE CITY, UT I AINT EVEN PUT 2,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK, WHAT KINDA OF DECEITFUL ETHICS VIOLATIONS ARE PRACTICED FROM THIS DEALERSHIP?

BUNK WIRING HARNESS IS SHORTING OUT CAUSING TRUCK TO NOT BE ABLE TO SHUT OFF WITH THE KEY....AND ALSO CAUSING PROBLEMS WITH THE DEF SYSTEM....SHOPS ARE TELLING US THAT THERE ARE TRUCKS BURNING DOWN FROM THIS FAULTY HARNESS...AND THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL FOR THIS BUT KENWORTH IS NOT FIXING THIS HARNESS AND EXPECTS THE OWNER TO FIX IT ....

NHTSA complaint 11099334. Filed by an owner and not verified by NHTSA or by us.

SERVICE BRAKES

65,547 miles

THIS TRUCK IS A MISBUILD FROM THE FACTORY ON THE BRAKE SYSTEM PLUMBING. I AM CONCERNED OTHER UNITS MAY ALSO HAVE BEEN BUILT WRONG. THE TRACTION CONTROL LOCKS UP THE FRONT DRIVE AXLE BRAKES WHEN THE TRUCK SPINS A TIRE AND KILLS THE ENGINE CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE DIFFERENTIAL AND LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. I HAVE IDENTIFIED THAT THE SERVICE BRAKE AIR LINES ARE HOOKED UP INCORRECTLY FROM THE FACTORY, NOT GOING THROUGH THE ABS MODULATOR VALVE. THIS ALLOWS FULL BRAKE APPLICATION TO THE FRONT DRIVE AXLE SERVICE BRAKES WHEN THE TRACTION CONTROL ENGAGES. IT ALSO MAKES THE TRUCK SO THE ABS BRAKE FUNCTION IS NOT ABLE TO FUNCTION. WE HAVE BLOWN APART 2 FRONT DIFFERENTIAL UNITS RENDERING THE TRUCK

THE DEFROST DOOR HAS BROKEN IN THIS VEHICLE FOR A SECOND TIME. THE KENWORTH DESIGN IS PROBLEMATIC AND EVEN THE NEW PARTS ONLY FIX THIS FOR A SHORT TIME. DRIVER NO LONGER HAS DEFROST WHEN THIS HAPPENS MAKING IT AN UNSAFE DRIVING SITUATION. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AT THE TIME IT BROKE.
