The defect
Suzuki Motor of America, Inc. (Suzuki) is recalling certain model year 2012-2103 Suzuki SX4 vehicles manufactured September 3, 2011, to April 5, 2013. The risk
A seizure of the power steering pump would cause a loss of power steering assist, requiring extra steering effort at lower speeds, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
The remedy
Suzuki will notify owners, and dealers will replace the power steering pump, free of charge. The recall began on October 9, 2015. Owners may contact Suzuki's customer service number at 1-800-934-0934. Suzuki's number for this recall is VS.

STEERING

26,800 miles

I WAS DRIVING ON THE NEW YORK THRUWAY (I-87) NORTHBOUND AND TOOK EXIT 23 FOR ALBANY. WHEN THE OFF RAMP MADE A SHARP RIGHT HAND CURVE, I REALIZED THAT I HAD NO POWER STEERING. THE CAR CONTINUED STRAIGHT AND CROSSED THE LINE ONTO THE LEFT SHOULDER LANE AND HEADED FOR THE GUARDRAIL. I THEN TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL REALLY HARD TO THE RIGHT IN ORDER TO WRESTLE THE CAR BACK ONTO THE ROAD. AFTER THAT, THE CAR WOULD HAVE ALMOST NO POWER STEERING BOOST UNDER 1500 RPM OR WHEN HARD BRAKING. THE CAR WOULD HAVE NEAR NORMAL POWER STEERING BOOST ABOVE 3000 RPM OR WHEN DRIVEN ON THE HIGHWAY. THE STEERING WHEEL IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN WHEN THE CAR IS AT IDLE SUCH AS WHEN ENTERING OR EXITING A PARKING

Where these numbers come from

A complaint is one owner's account and has not been verified by NHTSA or by us. A vehicle with more complaints is not necessarily worse: models that sold in larger numbers collect more of them. How this is counted.
