The defect
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2019 Buick Encore, Chevrolet Spark, Traverse, and Trax vehicles. The Sensing Diagnostic Module (SDM) on these vehicle may not have been turned off of "manufacturing mode," preventing the air bags from deploying in the event of a crash.
The risk
If the air bags do not deploy in the event of a crash, it can increase the risk of injury.
The remedy
GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the SDM module to the correct mode, free of charge. The recall began November 6, 2018. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300 and Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is 18365.

AIR BAGS

1 injured · crash · towed

THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION IN A SCHOOL ZONE OF 35 MPH ON A STREET. IT HAD A FRONT END IMPACT, WHICH IT REAR-ENDED THE CAR IN FRONT OF IT AND THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. THE AIRBAG BY THE FEET, DEPLOYED A PIECE OF METAL OR PLASTIC AND BLEW THROUGH THE CALF DOWN TO THE BONE. THE WOUND WAS 4-5 INCHES IN LENGTH AND REQUIRED 13 STITCHES. THERE WAS BARELY ANY DAMAGE TO THE CAR AND THERE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN A HOLE BLOWN THROUGH THE LEG. I THINK THESE AIRBAGS NEED TO BE RECALLED AS THEY ARE DANGEROUS AND CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY.

I HAD AN ACCIDENT ON 3/5/2020 IN MY 2019 CHEVY SPARK AND THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. FORTUNATELY I DID NOT SUFFER SERIOUS INJURY: BADLY BRUISED FOREARM AND ELBOW FROM HITTING THE STEERING WHEEL, WHIPLASH AND MUSCLE ACHES ON MY TOTAL RIGHT SIDE OF BODY AND BACK. I UNDERSTAND THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM AND I HAVE NOT BEEN NOTIFIED TO COME IN FOR SERVICE AS OF TODAY.

AIR BAGS
Friday morning, on June 16th I went out to start my car and I noticed an I code 95 on my dashboard. It also showed my ABS light, traction light, and airbag/seatbelt light. When I researched the I code 95 it said that my car had been in an accident and the airbag and seatbelt needs to be replaced. When I came home the previous night on June 15th there were no lights showing on my dashboard and I hadn't been in an accident. I also had pulled into my designated parking spot with my front tires facing the curb. When I checked my car I noticed no dents or scratches on my car. I then went to Bob Hook Chevrolet which is the dealership where I purchased my car, and they ran a quick diagnostic with

Where these numbers come from

A complaint is one owner's account and has not been verified by NHTSA or by us. A vehicle with more complaints is not necessarily worse: models that sold in larger numbers collect more of them. How this is counted.
