Owners of the 2019 Chevrolet Colorado have filed 146 safety complaints with NHTSA between January 2019 and August 2026. The most complained-about system is the power train, named in 62 of them (42%). The typical failure was reported at 7,600 miles, the median across the 62 complaints that gave an odometer reading.

No recall campaign was matched to this year, make and model. That is not the same as a clean vehicle: recalls are issued against production ranges, and the only reliable check is your own VIN.

. I WAS AT THE CARWASH VACUUMING THE TRUCK WHILE IN DRIVE WHEN I GOT BACK TO THE PASSENGER SIDE TO PUT THE HOSE UP, I REACHED IN TO REMOVE MY KEYS OUT OF THE IGNITION, AND THE TRUCK ROLLED BACKWARDS, I RAN TO THE DRIVER SIDE AND THE DOOR KNOCKED ME TO THE GROUND AND THE 2019 COLORADA RAN OVER MY ENTIRE BODY FROM MY FEET TO MY FACE AND HEAD. I SUFFERED A PUNCTURED LUNG AND MY PELVIC BONE IS FRACTURED IN SEVERAL PLACES. ALL OF THIS WAS CAUGHT ON TAPE.

AIR BAGS

3 injured · crash · towed

I was travelling at approximately 32 miles per hour when I rear ended a vehicle that was in front of me, the vehicle in front of me was stopped. The airbags did not deploy in my vehicle. Damage to the vehicle was substantial enough to declare the vehicle a total loss.

POWER TRAIN

I pulled off the dealer lot with 3 miles on the odometer, came to a stop sign and damn near smacked my face on the steering wheel due to a hard downshift from 2nd to 1st gear. Pulled back into the lot and was told that "I have to break it in". As I laughed in his face, I knew I messed up buying a GM product. 20 miles down the road, I start getting transmission shutter during light acceleration. Took it back to the dealer and they ended up changing the fluid. As I was coming to a stop to pull in my driveway, the transmission hard shifted and threw me past the driveway. Took it back in to hear "Yep, that is GM acceptable". I am now having transmission shutter so bad, the truck will barely

AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT DROP INTO 1ST GEAR. WHEN STARTING FROM A STOP, THE TRANSMISSION KICKS INTO GEAR VERY HARD, CAUSING A LOUD NOISE AND CAUSING THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS TO HAVE THEIR NECKS JERKED BACK, VERY HARD. THIS PROBLEM WAS PRESENT FROM THE TIME I PULLED IT OFF THE LOT WITH 4 MILES ON IT. I HAVE TAKEN IT BACK TO THE DEALER, ONLY TO BE TOLD THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS EVERY TIME THE TRUCK IS DRIVEN AT NEARLY EVER STOP I MAKE. THE REAR BRAKES PADS ARE WEARING OUT 3 TIMES FASTER, THAN THE FRONT PADS. I HAVE NEVER HAD TO CHANGE REAR BRAKES IN A VEHICLE, BUT THE CHEVY COLORADO HAS AN ISSUE WITH REAR BRAKES WEARING VERY QUICKLY.

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while coming to a stop, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the fuel gauge went from full to empty. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who replaced the fuel pump control module. The contact stated that his two son-in-law's vehicles, which were the same year, make, and model, also had the fuel pump control module failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER
Failure of Torque Converter. Transmission flushed. May or may not work. Retest after 200 miles. If failure continues, replace entire Torque Converter.

SERVICE BRAKES
VIN: [XXX]. 2019 Chevy Colorado, ~115,000 mi. FAILED COMPONENT: Vacuum pump failed internally; debris damaged the exhaust camshaft. Pump is cam-driven with no shear pin, so seizure cuts brake assist AND sends metal debris into the engine. Truck/parts are at Chapman Chevrolet, Tempe AZ, available for inspection. SAFETY RISK: On XXX, brake pedal suddenly lost assist while my son merged onto XXX from [XXX]. Pedal effort/stopping distance increased with no warning - high risk of collision merging into highway traffic. CONFIRMED BY DEALER: Yes. Chapman Chevrolet confirmed vacuum pump failure and camshaft damage, consistent with GM TSB 21-NA-268 (drive-lug failure). OTHER INSPECTIONS: Dealer only

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
The infotainment system is not functioning. The screen will come on as I turn on the truck, then it goes blank. Sometimes it flashes and then goes black. I cannot use any of my apps or connect to Apple CarPlay. This has been going on for months now. I have complained to Chevrolet and the dealership. They have failed to provide a solution. This truck only has 35,000 miles on it. We can no longer take it on trips because we have no navigation, especially in areas where wi-fi may be hard to connect to by just our phones. We have followed all the trouble shooting provided in the Chevy app or online and nothing helps.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER
I purchased my truck from Karl Chevrolet in Ankeny, IA around September of 2019. Approximately 1.5 years after purchasing the vehicle, I began having issues with my infotainment system intermittently resetting itself while I was driving. On or about the end of 2021 (after this had occurred a few time), I brought the truck into the Karl Chevrolet in Ankeny, IA, as it seemed to become more frequent of an occurrence. The technician told me that this thing happens all the time with the infotainment systems and it was nothing to be concerned about and because it was intermittent, they may not be able to identify the issue unless it was actively occurring and I was told to come back in if it

POWER TRAIN
Torque converter shutter makes vehicle lunge forward while driving. Feels like something pushes you from behind. On a wet road and especially in a curve this could cause rear wheels to slide.

Where these numbers come from

A complaint is one owner's account and has not been verified by NHTSA or by us. A vehicle with more complaints is not necessarily worse: models that sold in larger numbers collect more of them. How this is counted.
