STEERING

1 injured · crash · 550 miles

I PURCHASED A 2020 TOYOTA SUPRA ON NOVEMBER 11, 2019. ON DECEMBER 2,2019. THIS VEHICLE SERIOUSLY AND VERY DANGEROUSLY MALFUNCTIONED. I WAS PULLING OUT OF MY RESIDENTIAL AREA AFTER STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN, PROCEEDED TO MAKE A LEFT ONTO GREENSPRING AVE. , HEADING TOWARDS THE BELTWAY, AND THIS VEHICLE, INSTEAD OF ALLOWING ME TO TURN LEFT, TOOK OVER AND THE STEERING WENT TO THE RIGHT, TAKING ME UP A CURB AND INTO A TREE. THE CAR LITERALLY TOOK COMPLETE CONTROL WITHOUT ALLOWING ME TO CONTROL THE STEERING. THERE ARE MANY POSSIBLE REASONS THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THIS TO HAPPEN. IT COULD BE THE A LANE SENSOR FAILURE, STEERING FAILURE, SENSORS FAILURE, SOFTWARE FAILURE, SOFTWARE MISCOMMUNICATION ETC.

ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)

crash · towed · 1,495 miles

I WAS STOPPED IN THE LEFT TURN LANE AT A RED LIGHT. THE TURN ARROW SWITCHED TO GREEN SO I TOOK THE U-TURN. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE U-TURN GOING ABOUT 15 MPH, WHEN THE CAR BEGAN TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN. THE CAR OVERSTEERED, AND THE REAR PORTION OF THE CAR KICKED OUT TO THE RIGHT SIDE. I CORRECTED BY COUNTERSTEERING AND REMOVING MY FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE, CAUSING ME TO OVERSTEER TO THE LEFT SIDE THIS TIME. IN AN EFFORT TO STOP THE CAR, I SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES WHILE OVERSTEERING. THIS CAUSED THE CAR TO ROTATE COUNTER CLOCKWISE, AND IMPACTED WITH THE CURB AND ENDED UP ON TOP OF THE MEDIAN. THERE WAS SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO THE REAR PASSENGER

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
There is currently an ongoing recall for the GR Supra over the starter. I currently drive a 2020 and have had periodic starter malfunctions. This is when I go to start the car it states starter system malfunction then lets me still turn it on after clearing the error message. I have brought this up to my dealership and due to the intermittent nature of the issue they said they could not diagnose and that continuity was good so they would not replace it and if they did it would not be covered. I fear that my car is a fire risk based on the recall notices for all the other model years and that when it happens I will be left holding the bag. The date listed below (7/17/2026) is just the last

ENGINE
I am reporting a safety concern involving BMW and Toyota vehicles equipped with the B58 Technical Update (B58TU) engine, commonly found in 2019–2021 models. These engines use a variable displacement oil pump with an internal thermoplastic adjusting component that regulates oil pressure. Field reports show this component can fracture, causing sudden loss or instability of oil pressure—most often during cold starts in low temperatures. When the part fails, oil pressure regulation becomes erratic or disappears entirely, often with little or no useful warning before engine damage or vehicle disablement. Reported early signs include failed electronic oil level readings, abnormal pressure

The contact owns a 2020 Toyota Supra. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle with the Push-to-Start button, the vehicle hesitated while starting. A message that the engine was overheating was displayed. The contact stated that the vehicle was idling in Low Power Mode while at a stoplight, and the vehicle hesitated while accelerating with the accelerator pedal depressed. The vehicle then suddenly jolted forward. The failure was temporarily fixed after shifting to SPORT Mode. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer, where the starter was replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was towed to a local independent BMW Service Center,

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
The 2020 - 2025 Toyota Supra is manufactured by BMW and uses virtually all components supplied by BMW. The vehicle includes dual climate controls (driver / passenger) and the temperature of the air from the vents is controlled independently. It is known by BMW that the blend door or the actuator (motor) - which regulates how much cold versus hot air is mixed per the control setting - can break or be deformed. This is a manufacturing defect in the heating unit, not a wear issue. No heat is available to the driver either through the center vent, the left vent, and most importantly from a safety standpoint, the vents at the windshield. This means defrosting or defogging the windshield during
