SEATS:MID/REAR ASSEMBLY

17V725000 · November 17, 2017

The defect
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2011-2017 Honda Odyssey vehicles. The second row outboard seats can slide sideways to one of two positions. If a seat is placed between either of the two positions when attaching the seat to the vehicle floor, the seat will not latch properly to the seat striker, allowing the seat to tip forward unexpectedly during braking.
The risk
If the seat tips forward during braking, it can increase the risk of injury.
The remedy
Honda will notify owners, and dealers will install a bracket to the second row outboard floor strikers, free of charge. The recall began April 2, 2018. Owners may contact American Honda Customer Support & Campaign Center at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is S0G.

Defect investigations (1)

An investigation means NHTSA has decided a pattern is worth examining. A preliminary evaluation is often closed with no action; an engineering analysis is the stage that usually precedes a recall.

Inadvertent Deployment of Air Bags

DP26005

Still open defect petition · opened July 13, 2026

the air bags

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) received a Petition dated May 30, 2026. The Petition is requesting an investigation into inadvertent air bag deployment in model year (MY) 2011-2017 Honda Odyssey vehicles. The Petition contends that air bags can deploy absent a sufficiently severe event to trigger a deployment, such as an impact, rollover event, or G-force threshold breach. The Petition further alleges that the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) conflict and inaccurate data is being recorded for the air bag system. The Petitioner cites 10 complaints received by ODI alleging the same failure. ODI will evaluate these complaints to determine if they are related to the failure cited in the Petition andconduct a technical review under 49 CFR Part 552. This Defect Petition is being opened to evaluate whether to grant or deny the Petition. The Petition can be viewed at NHTSA.gov under NHTSA Number 11744118.

I NEED TO REPLACE MY HONDA ODYSSEY BRAUNABILITY WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE ENTERVAN. BECAUSE IT WAS DESTROYED IN THE FEBRUARY 7TH CHAIN ACCIDENT AT THE MARIO CUOMO /TAPPAN ZEE BRIDGE IN WESTCHESTER, NEW YORK. YOUR RECALL FOR THE SECOND SEADT ROW PREVENTS HONDA DEALERS TO SELL ME A NEW VEHICLE, EVEN IF A WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE VAN CANNOT POSSIBLY USE A SECOND ROW SEAT,. ACCORDINGLY I KINDLY ASK YOU TO ISSUE A WAIVER THAT I CAN SUBMIT TO ANY HONDA DEALER. DEADLINE FOR SUBMITTING MY ORDER FOR CONVERION IS FEB 28 AND CHASSIS HAS TO ARRIVE A BRAUNABILITY NO LATER THAN MARCH 16, 2018.

EQUIPMENT
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Odyssey hauling a trailer equipped with a Rhino USA Trailer Hitch Coupler Lock Kit. The contact stated that while driving at 70 MPH over a bump, the trailer hitch latch lock had failed, causing the trailer to detach and strike the rear of the vehicle, producing sparks. The safety chain remained on the trailer. Upon inspection, the contact discovered that the coupler latch had opened and the lock was no longer securing the trailer. The trailer lock was found, but the pin was missing. The contact used a jack to lift the trailer and put the trailer back on the hitch using another pin and was able to continue driving for the rest of the trip. The manufacturer was

AIR BAGS
I was driving on the highway at approximately 65 mph and the passenger side SRS (seatbelt and airbag) deployed. There was no collision, pothole or any other change in momentum to the vehicle immediately prior to deployment. No other airbags deployed.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Vehicle jerks and stalls while accelerating and has died and coasted at times. Was told it has a recall but was not issued one since I have owned it since early this year. Called a Honda dealership and was told that it did not qualify for the recall. Seems to do this after I’ve drove it for a while and it is warmed up.

POWER TRAIN
-Torque convertor/transmission. We do currently have it and it could be inspected. -A sudden transmission failure could pose a safety risk to us and others. -Yes, see story below. Technician drove and did report feeling the shuddering. -Yes, by honda and now a third party mechanic. -No lights. We received a recall/extension warranty for the torque converter/transmission. My van is currently having shuddering issues. When we took it to Milton Martin Honda in Gainesville, GA, they reported the issue is present, but not at a certain "threshold" for them to be required to fix it. They then proceeded to charge me $175 for diagnostics because the issue did not reach said "threshold." They then

ENGINE
At 60 mph the vehicle began shaking , I pulled over , put it in park while still running, and got out to inspect. I noticed some smoke from under the hood and by the time I got inside to release the hood latch , the smoke stopped. With multiple lights on the dash I shut it off . It would not restart . It was towed to my home. We pulled off the belt and attempted to turn the engine crank with a breaker bar, and it is seized. We also hooked up a scanner in which it showed many faults. The battery tested good , and the starter was trying to engage .

Where these numbers come from

A complaint is one owner's account and has not been verified by NHTSA or by us. A vehicle with more complaints is not necessarily worse: models that sold in larger numbers collect more of them. How this is counted.
