Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2007-2011 CR-V vehicles that were sold, or ever registered in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Washington D.C., and Wisconsin. An accumulation of road salt may cause the frame to corrode and possibly detach the rear trailing arm.

The risk

A detached rear trailing arm can cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Dealers will inspect and install a support brace or repair the rear frame, as necessary, free of charge. Depending on the extent of any corrosion damage, Honda may offer to repurchase the vehicle. Recall 23V228 was performed on my vehicle (brace installed), but the structural failure the recall was meant to prevent has occurred anyway. Honda is denying a buyback by claiming 'general rust,' despite stating the vehicle is irreparable and unsafe to drive.. I live in [XXX] . [XXX] on [XXX] noted the frame damage. I spoke to Honda Corporate was given case #XXX and was told to take it to a dealer. I took it to Lia Honda in Northhampon who said the frame is irreperable but it doesn't fall under the recall. The contact owns a 2011 Honda CR-V. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for routine maintenance, where it was determined there was a front passenger’s air bag issue with the wiring underneath the seat related to DTC: F1-11 and E2-11. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated the failure was associated with NTSA Campaign Number: 19V502000 (Air Bags). The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted due to a phone issue. The failure mileage was approximately 142,500.
