FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

24V110000 · February 14, 2024

The defect
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain front-wheel drive 2015-2020 Audi A3 Sedan, 2015-2019 Audi A3 Cabriolet, 2019-2020 Volkswagen Jetta GLI, 2018 Golf Sportwagen GP, 2018-2019 Golf Sportwagen A7, 2015-2017 Golf Sportwagen, 2015-2020 Golf GTI, and 2015-2020 Golf A7 vehicles. Due to a problem with a suction jet pump seal inside the fuel tank, fuel may flow into the evaporative emissions (EVAP) system and possibly leak out of the charcoal canister.
The risk
A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.
The remedy
Dealers will replace the suction pump, free of charge. Final owner notification letters for Audi owners were mailed on July 25, 2024. Final owner letters for VW owners were mailed on August 13, 2024. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298 or Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Volkswagen's numbers for this recall are VW: 20UF/Audi: 20YF. Vehicles that were previously recalled under 16V-647 will need to have the new remedy completed. This recall expands and replaces previous recall number 16V-647.

AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:PASSENGER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE

22V543000 · July 27, 2022

The defect
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2016 Audi TT Roadster, TT Coupe, S3 Sedan, R8 Coupe, A3 Sedan, A3 Etron, A3 Cabriolet, 2016 Golf Sportwagen, Golf R, Golf GTI, Golf A7, and E Golf vehicles. During air bag deployment, the front passenger air bag may explode or deploy improperly.
The risk
An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking occupants, resulting in serious injury or death. An improper air bag deployment may not properly restrain the occupant, increasing their risk of injury in a crash.
The remedy
Dealers will replace the front-passenger air bag module, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 16, 2022. Owners may contact Volkswagen's customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Audi's customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 69DY and 61C1.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:ANTI-THEFT:CONTROL MODULE

19V615000 · August 22, 2019

The defect
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2015-2019 GTI, 2015-2016 and 2018-2019 Golf, 2012-2019 Beetle and Beetle Convertible, 2017-2019 Golf SportWagen and 2011-2018 Jetta vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission, manual handbrake and keyless entry. A build-up of silicate on the shift lever micro switch contacts may enable the key to be removed from the ignition when the transmission shift lever is not in "Park."
The risk
Removing the key while the shift lever is in a position other than "Park" increases the risk of an unintended vehicle rollaway that may result in personal injury or a crash.
The remedy
Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will install an additional switch and circuit board, free of charge. The recall began November 19, 2019. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 37M2.

Fuel Leak due to Suction Jet Pump Failure within Fuel Tank (Remedy Effectiveness of Recall 16V647)

RQ23007

Closed recall query · opened December 12, 2023 · closed July 1, 2024 · led to recall 24V110

the gasoline fuel system

On December 12, 2023, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened RQ23-007 to investigate the remedy repair effectiveness and scope of Volkswagen (VW) recall 16V-647. Recall 16V-647 was issued on September 2, 2016, for a defective suction jet pump (SJP) inside the fuel tank. Failure of the SJP could lead to a fuel leak from the vehicle. This recall covered certain model year (MY) 2015-2016 Volkswagen Golf and Audi A3 passenger car vehicles. The recall remedy repair replaced SJP Version 1.0 with an improved version, Version 1.1. The SJP is designed to purge fuel from the evaporative emissions (EVAP) system. VW’s recall filing stated the SJP may have been damaged during assembly, which could potentially allow fuel to flow directly into the EVAP system. Over time, the fuel could accumulate in, and cause a leak from, the charcoal canister filter element. ODI received consumer complaints of SJP failure leading to a fuel leak, refueling spit back, refueling shutoff, and/or fuel odor in vehicles previously repaired under recall 16V-647. Additional complaints alleging SJP failure leading to the previously stated outcomes were received in vehicles outside the scope of recall 16V-647, including MY 2016-2020 VW Golf and Audi A3 vehicles. VW issued recall 24V-110 on February 14, 2024, to address issues with SJPs Versions 1.0 and 1.1. The recall remedy replaces the SJP Version 1.0 or 1.1 with an improved version, Version 2.0. Recall 24V-110 covers certain MY 2015-2020 VW Golf (including Golf GTI), 2015-2020 Audi A3, and 2019-2020 VW Jetta GLI vehicles, including vehicle previously repaired under 16V-647. Vehicle owners were notified of this recall in April 2024 and VW’s projected date for owner notification of recall remedy availability is August 2024. In view of the recall being conducted by VW, ODI is closing this Recall Query (RQ). The Agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the ODI reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.

CENTER CONSOLE TRIM BECAME UNGLUED AND SHARP. CHROME SURROUNDING THE CENTER STORAGE PEELED UP AND CUT ME SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE I HAD THE PIECE REPLACED OUT OF MY WALLET.

THE CHROME TRIM DETAIL AROUND THE GEAR SELECTOR BASE PEELED UP SLIGHTLY RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE STORAGE CUBBY. IT IS NOT VISIBLE FROM A NORMAL SEATED POSITION THAT IT PEELED UP. WHEN REMOVING AN ITEM FROM THE STORAGE CUBBY THE PEELED UP METAL DEEPLY SLICED MY FINGER AND IT BLED FOR HOURS. THE PEELED UP METAL IS RAZOR SHARP. THE VW DEALER WAS FAMILIAR WITH THE ISSUE ON SIMILAR VEHICLES AND REPLACED THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY. THIS HAPPENED IN DECEMBER 2017. I AM REPORTING IT NOW AFTER HEARING OF SEVERAL SIMILAR OCCURRENCES WITH THIS MAKE/MODEL.

THE SILVER METAL TRIM THAT BORDERS THE GEAR SHIFTER HAS STARTED TO PEEL AWAY FROM THE PLASTIC BASE TRIM UNDERNEATH. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW AND WAS DONE BECAUSE IT IS CHEAPER TO MAKE A FLAT METAL PLATE AND JUST GLUE IT ON TOP OF THE BASE PLATE THAN IT IS TO MAKE AN EDGE THAT ROLLS OVER AND DOWN THE SIDE OF THE BASE PLATE IT IS GLUED TO. SO IN ESSENCE WHEN IT SEPARATES, IT'S BASICALLY A RAZOR BLADE EDGE BECAUSE IT IS SO THIN. MY WIFE HAS CUT HER HAND OPEN ON THIS AS HAVE SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE ON FORUMS SO THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE.

STEERING
While driving my 2016 Volkswagen GTI MK7 Autobahn Edition with approximately 37,000 miles, the power steering suddenly and without warning failed completely. The steering wheel became extremely difficult to turn, requiring significant physical force to operate. Simultaneously, both the TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) warning light and the ESC (Electronic Stability Control) warning light illuminated on the dashboard. I brought the vehicle to an authorized Volkswagen dealership, Deel Volkswagen in Miami, Florida. The dealership diagnosed the issue as a complete failure of the steering rack and pinion assembly and quoted approximately $6,000 for replacement. This failure occurred at

NHTSA Recall 24V-110 (VW 20UF). The vehicle is in Limp Mode and experiencing low oil pressure symptoms. It is also subject to Recall 24V-110, which identifies a fire risk due to fuel leakage. Despite the safety hazard, the local Volkswagen dealership has refused to perform the recall repair or diagnose the vehicle, stating it is at their 'discretion.' I am reporting a failure by the manufacturer and the dealer to remedy an active safety defect, leaving me with an unsafe, undriveable vehicle."

UNKNOWN OR OTHER
I am reporting a safety concern related to Safety Recall 20UF on my 2016 Volkswagen Golf GTI SE and the handling of this recall by an authorized Volkswagen dealership (Pohanka Volkswagen, Capitol Heights, MD). Prior to the recall service, the vehicle exhibited loss of power, intermittent shuddering, and severe difficulty refueling (fuel pump nozzle repeatedly shut off even with a low fuel level). These symptoms were similar to prior EVAP system failures that required replacement of the charcoal canister and EVAP purge (N80) valve earlier in 2025. I brought the vehicle to the dealership on December 29, 2025, specifically requesting completion of Recall 20UF and inspection/replacement of EVAP

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Fuel is leaking from near the gas tank when the car is running and creates a puddle- I took my car to the local VW dealership in February to get the Suction Jet Pump Recall completed.

I was driving on the highway, and heard a quiet sound like someone sprinkling sand on my windshield for about 10 seconds. All of a sudden, the sun roof burst and shattered with a loud pop. Luckily the internal slide-able screen webbing kept the glass from entering the compartment (except a bit of glass dust and small shards). I never heard a rock hit, or any other cause. I believe the ‘sand sprinkling’ sound was the ‘spider web’ cracks spreading prior to the burst. Obviously that is extremely dangerous while driving on the highway. If it wasn’t for the internal screen keeping the glass off me, it could have been much worse. I was able to pull off the highway and temporarily secure the glass

Where these numbers come from

A complaint is one owner's account and has not been verified by NHTSA or by us. A vehicle with more complaints is not necessarily worse: models that sold in larger numbers collect more of them. How this is counted.
