Owners of the 2019 Ford Fusion Hybrid have filed 35 safety complaints with NHTSA between March 2019 and July 2026. The most complained-about system is the engine, named in 8 of them (23%). The typical failure was reported at 54,647 miles, the median across the 18 complaints that gave an odometer reading.

No recall campaign was matched to this year, make and model. That is not the same as a clean vehicle: recalls are issued against production ranges, and the only reliable check is your own VIN.

Defect investigations (1)

An investigation means NHTSA has decided a pattern is worth examining. A preliminary evaluation is often closed with no action; an engineering analysis is the stage that usually precedes a recall.

the electrical system

NHTSA received a petition on or about July 18, 2022, requesting that Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the United States. The petition can be reviewed at NHTSA.gov under ODI Number 11486072. FMVSS 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 KG or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after March 1, 2021.On January 27, 2023, NHTSA opened Defect Petition (DP) 22-005 to evaluate the subject matter described in the petition. On June 24, 2023 and as supplemented on June 25, 2023, the petitioner notified NHTSA he was withdrawing his petition. The petitioner indicated that, based on his review of data, there is no justification for asserting potential benefits that could be derived from actions sought by my petition. Based on the petitioner's withdrawal, DP22-005 is closed. Closure of this DP does not represent a determination by NHTSA regarding the subject matter of the petition.

The contact's daughter owned a 2019 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while her daughter was idled in traffic, another vehicle rear-ended the vehicle that was behind the daughter's vehicle, causing the vehicle from behind to rear-end the daughter's vehicle. It was a seven-vehicle collision. All of the passenger's side front air bags deployed upon impact where the contact's son was seated. The driver's side front knee and steering wheel air bags deployed upon impact, except for the side curtain and seat air bags. The contact's daughter and son were transported by ambulance to the hospital for injuries sustained. The contact's daughter suffered a fractured back, whiplash, and burns on the

I WAS IN A CAR ACCIDENT THAT ULTIMATELY TOTALED THE CAR. THE AIRBAG UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE DASH CAME OUT BUT THE AIRBAG IN THE STEERING WHEEL DID NOT COME OUT NOR DID THE SEATBELT LOCK. MY HEAD AND FACE HIT THE WINDSHIELD LEAVING ME WITH INJURIES TO MY FACE AND NOSE AND I HAD INJURIES ON THE ENTIRE LEFT SIDE OF MY BODY. I WAS GOING 45 MPH AND FELL ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL. I VEERED OFF INTO A DITCH AND HIT THE OTHER SIDE OF IT. *TR*DT*JB

I was driving on a slushy road and it was snowing. I received a warning that the pre-collision assist was unavailable. Another light also lit up saying there was no traction. The car veered toward the concrete barrier next to me and I couldn't turn the wheel. The brakes also did not work. I slammed into the concrete barrier at about 55 mph and began spinning back across the interstate and stopped next to a guardrail. When I hit the concrete barrier, my seatbelt didn't catch and my whole body slid forward into the steering wheel, dashboard, and windshield. My face hit the windshield. The airbags never inflated.

I REACHED DOWN ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE DRIVER'S SEAT TO RETRIEVE A FALLEN OBJECT AND CUT MY WRIST ON A SHARP, RAW, METAL EDGE OF A STAMPING ON THE SIDE OF THE SEAT. LOTS OF BLOOD, BUT NOT A DEEP CUT.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
2019 Ford Fusion Hybrid SE. Vehicle experienced a “Stop Safely Now” warning with hybrid system shutdown, occurring both while driving and while parked/idling, causing jerking symptoms. This puts driver and other roadway users at risk, as loss of power/propulsion can occur without warning while in motion. Vehicle also set a P0073 (ambient air temperature sensor circuit high) fault code. The ambient air temperature sensor was replaced (Ford part numbers AU5Z-12A647-B / FC4Z-12A647-A) but the underlying issue has not been fully resolved and diagnostics are ongoing. Vehicle also had a prior transmission replacement (January 2023). Vehicle has also had extreme, unresolved electrical issues:

STEERING
I have a 2019 Ford Fusion. The bolt holding the steering wheel to the steering shaft has come loose. in May 2018 there was a recall for this same loose steering wheel issue on 2014-2018 versions of the Fusion. There is no loose steering wheel recall for the 2019 Fusion. Ford's remedy for the loose steering wheel was replacing the bolt holding the steering wheel to the steering shaft with a longer bolt on the 2014-2018 Fusions. I would expect the longer bolt was used in production in my 2019 Fusion steering, and that's why it is not recalled. But that longer bolt has also come loose like the older shorter bolts. This would make me suspect the repaired older recalled Fusion steering wheels

Where these numbers come from

A complaint is one owner's account and has not been verified by NHTSA or by us. A vehicle with more complaints is not necessarily worse: models that sold in larger numbers collect more of them. How this is counted.
