ENGINE
A check engine light on a Mercedes-Benz Metris, accompanied by a P052E code, often indicates a problem with the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system, specifically the PCV regulator valve or its associated components. This code signals that the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) has detected an issue with the crankcase pressure, suggesting a malfunction in the PCV system's ability to regulate pressure.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
The pressure relief valve part on our Mercedes van is causing a check engine light to go off with code P052E. It's a known issue on several MB models (GLB, C300, etc.) that this original part wears out and can potentially cause an under-hood fire if oil gets clogged up in the components. To my knowledge there is no routine maintenance that we missed that would be causing this issue. MB has since released a new style of PCV part with insulation wrapped around the hose to prevent condensation build up. It's not possible to get the original stye of that part that is installed on our van anymore because Mercedes knows the part is poorly constructed and will fail. It's a costly and laborious

Where these numbers come from

A complaint is one owner's account and has not been verified by NHTSA or by us. A vehicle with more complaints is not necessarily worse: models that sold in larger numbers collect more of them. How this is counted.
