The risk

A short circuit in the engine compartment can create heat or spark, increasing the risk of a fire.

Excessive wear of the transmission and transfer case splines may result in a loss of drive power or vehicle rollaway, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2016-2019 Lincoln MKC, 2016-2023 Explorer, 2019-2020 Fusion, 2019-2024 Ranger, 2020-2022 Lincoln Corsair, Escape, 2021-2024 Bronco, Bronco Sport, and 2022-2024 Maverick vehicles. The engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.

The risk

An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.

The remedy

Owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until the vehicle is remedied. Dealers will replace the block heater, free of charge. Owners will also have a alternative option to replace engine block heater element with a threaded blanking plug, and remove the block heater electrical cord. MIC Hardtop is cracking and honeycomb

I notified the dealership where I bought the vehicle of the issue when it first happened in Feb 2025. I have since notified them 3 additional times and I have called Ford Motor Company, twice. The roof leaks in heavy rain while driving and when going through a car wash. The water streams inside and runs down onto the lighted vanity mirror which is connected to the electrical system of the vehicle and hits the driver in the face with water. The dealership said that they tried to reproduce the issue but couldn’t get it to leak. It’s because they aren’t using water at a high pressure and speed. I have since found that the issue is know as it is listed on the internet in multiple places.

The VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 26V124000 (Back Over Prevention). Additionally, the power windows and AC were inoperable due to the failure. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled due to the APIM overheating. The dealer was contacted, and a repair of the vehicle was pending. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken in to a dealer where the failed the inspection and she was notified that the bolt could come loose. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure where she was notified that they did not have the part available at this time. The failure mileage was approximately 9,004.
