Recall 23V-413 Post Remedy Failures

RQ25005

Still open recall query · opened December 11, 2025

the suspension

On June 8, 2023, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles US, LLC (FCA) filed Safety Recall 23V-413 affecting certain 2022–2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee and2021–2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L vehicles to address rear coil springs that may not have been properly installed during vehicle production. An improperly installed rear coil spring may detach while the vehicle is in motion, creating a road hazard that can increase the risk of a crash for following motorists and may result in injury to other road users. Since the filing of Recall 23V-413, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has received twenty (20) unique consumer complaints alleging rear coil spring detachments occurring after the recall remedy was performed. These reports raise concerns regarding the effectiveness of the recall remedy and suggest the possibility of additional factors not addressed by the original recall campaign. Accordingly, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) is opening this Recall Query (RQ) to assess the adequacy of FCA’s remedy procedure under Recall 23V-413 and to evaluate the root cause(s) of post-remedy coil spring detachments. ODI will review complaint data, field reports, and FCA’s technical analysis to determine whether further action is warranted. To review the ODI reports cited in the Opening Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, visit NHTSA.gov.

crash · towed

On Friday, January 16, 2026, I was involved in a head-on collision. During the accident, the airbags did not deploy, and the seatbelt failed to lock, which resulted in me not being properly restrained. As a result, I suffered a mild concussion along with significant bruising. In addition to this serious safety concern, we have made numerous complaints regarding ongoing electrical issues with the vehicle. These include the screens frequently changing languages and measurement units, blacking out entirely, or becoming unresponsive. The paddle shifters have also never functioned properly, despite the vehicle being serviced multiple times for this issue. What is especially concerning is that

SEATS
Passenger seat lumbar air bag randomly over inflates and doesn't deflate to the point where the seat in not usable. This caused pieces in the rear of the passenger seat to bow out and push the plastic cover off, touching rear seat which holds a car seat for a 2 year old. This puts the passenger and rear seat passenger at risk along with possibly all passengers. This has been brought to a Jeep dealership and they left it inflated for now. They gave an invoice for 2 parts, the module and back cover. I was told it shouldn't inflate more and when I asked, was told it probably won't explode but I may want to move the car seat over.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Forward Collision Warning has been disabled since a forced OTA software update in August of 2024. Jeep has issued a STAR report to their dealers (S248A000013). Jeep acknowledges it is an issue, but fails to cover the remedy. Dealer wants $200+ to diagnose plus the cost of the software refresh. The system forces you to take the software update, removes a key safety feature, and then Jeep wants you to pay to restore it. This is a major issue with this model covered in the forums and should be addressed via recall. [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
The initial safety issue began with the rear-view camera going blank and the Uconnect 5 screen freezing while the vehicle was operating in reverse. My vehicle's service record indicates that Safety Recall 24V-436 / FCA Campaign 79B was marked as "Completed" in the FCA system on June 19, 2024—even though the official recall was not initiated until around June 25, 2024, and no physical software update was performed at that time. To resolve the recall, I took my 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L to Performance Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Delaware, Ohio, where technicians updated the software to version FCA-MY24.U33.43-PROD. Immediately following this dealer update, several core vehicle and safety

The dealership performed the backup camera safety recall (Jeep Recall 66B / NHTSA Campaign 24V436000), but the safety defect returned. The dealership is now refusing to re-repair the vehicle, falsely claiming the recall warranty has expired. The backup camera screen is blue and says camera is not available.

SERVICE BRAKES
This model of Jeep has a documented history of having software problems that occur resulting in huge safety issues. I am filing this report because Jeep has not successfully solved this issue leading to regular ongoing safety concerns. Jeep themselves have issued several STAR reports on this, and a simple internet search will show thousands upon thousands of posts of owners with recurring issues. The specific safety concerns regarding seat positioning while moving, language change of instrumentation and critical alarms, metric changes to critical items like speed, and failure of front collision sensors. The issue begins with the driver seat changing its position while driving. While driving

Coinciding with the switch to Italian language, cluster and radio display settings revert back to default settings, auto door locks and paddle shifter becomes inoperative (with no menu to enable), pedestrian emergency brake (peb) lamp or forward collision warning (fcw) lamp turns on with no way to disable, units of measurement including speed, temperature, etc. all change, and many other random settings change as well. ***This is clearly a dangerous situation because of all the functions and gauges that change, and the fact it is difficult if not

Where these numbers come from

A complaint is one owner's account and has not been verified by NHTSA or by us. A vehicle with more complaints is not necessarily worse: models that sold in larger numbers collect more of them. How this is counted.
