The defect
General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2020-2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500, 3500, GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 vehicles equipped with power-unlatching tailgates. The tailgate's electronic gate-release switch may short circuit due to water intrusion, which can result in the tailgate inadvertently unlatching while the vehicle is in park.
The risk
An unlatched tailgate may open while driving and result in a loss of unsecured cargo, creating a road hazard and increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy
Owners are advised to check that the tailgate is closed and latched before driving. Dealers will replace the exterior touchpad switch assemblies, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 17, 2024. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N232426400.

AIR BAGS

1 injured · crash · towed

I was in an accident and was hit in the right front side of my truck. The other vehicle was believed to be going around 50 mph and I had just rolled thru a stop sign. The other vehicle that hit me had the air bags deploy, but my airbags did not deploy. This is very concerning considering there was enough force to significantly bend the frame on my truck. I was transported to the ER and suffered internal organ bruising due to the accident. If the airbags would have deployed, my body could.have not jolted so much causing these injuries.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
The vehicle experienced a catastrophic fuel system failure involving the high-pressure fuel pump and related fuel system components. While driving, the engine began stalling and lost power, making the vehicle unsafe to operate. The failed components were replaced during repairs; however, the repair records, photographs, and additional documentation are available for inspection upon request. The failure created a significant safety risk because the vehicle stalled unexpectedly while being driven, resulting in a sudden loss of power. This placed the occupants and surrounding motorists at risk by reducing the driver's ability to safely control the vehicle or move it out of traffic. The problem

TIRES
275/65R20 - Goodyear Wrangler. This is the tire that came with the vehicle. It had approximately 32,000 miles. The tire separated and exploded. We installed the spare but one of the other tires is getting ready to explode. This is not normal wear and tear. This is out of the ordinary that tires on a new vehicle explode. We were on [XXX] when this happened. This tire is a death trap. This is forcing us to replace all 4 tires because we do not know what is going to happen. The dealership (Jerry Seiner) will do NOTHING. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Where these numbers come from

A complaint is one owner's account and has not been verified by NHTSA or by us. A vehicle with more complaints is not necessarily worse: models that sold in larger numbers collect more of them. How this is counted.
