The defect
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2023-2024 Corolla and Corolla Hybrid vehicles. Due to cracks developed during the manufacturing process, the steering intermediate shaft assembly may fracture and possibly result in the shaft detaching from the steering column.
The risk
A steering shaft that detaches can result in a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy
Dealers will replace the intermediate steering shaft, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 17, 2025. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's number for this recall is 24TB13/24TA13.

"I am reporting a fatal crash involving a 2024 Toyota Corolla (VIN [XXX] I do not know the exact mechanical cause, but the following symptoms occurred: 1) The driver reported dashboard lights (red and blue) flickering on and off, windows and locks going on or off. 2) There was hesitation in acceleration after taking off, 3) The vehicle failed to stop and went airborne causing a FATAL accident. Insurance Co. failed to investigate porperly and sold the car To Co-part without waiting for Probate forms to be complete for this vehicle and the Estate. We have discovered this car was an Avis fleet vehicle sold as 'new' at Beaver Toyota. I am requesting a federal investigation to determine if a

There was a recall on my vehicle for the skid and emergency braking and was told it was taken care of Feb 2025 at my service appointment. I was involved in a car accident on Aug 11, 2025, everything that was supposed to be fixed in the recall did not operate during my crash. I reconfirmed with the dealership that they did the recall repair and they again said yes but if they did then the repair completely failed. There was no emergency braking available, the car skid a long distance, no airbags deployed even though all sensors in the front were engaged and collision center confirmed they should have gone off. Vehicle is currently at collision center and is available to be inspected.

[XXX] In reading the above article, Toyota recalled Corolla Cross Hybrid vehicles with many complaints and situations mirroring our accident. Before the accident, the vehicle displayed no warning signs. Despite the driver pressing the brakes and the assisted braking feature seemingly turning on (e.g., signal lights on the computer system), neither seemed to work in this situation. The damage was far too severe for the assisted braking feature to have activated, along with the driver pressing the brakes. After viewing the matter with those involved in the accident, many of us concurred that we believe either the braking system or the computer system failed. In the aftermath of the accident,

Component/system failed: The SRS Airbag System malfunctioned. After a rear-end collision on October 3, 2025, in Gwinnett County, GA, the airbags did not deploy. The vehicle displayed an alert: “SRS Airbag System – Malfunction detected” at 16:02. Safety risk: My safety was put at risk because the airbags did not function during a significant impact. This failure could have resulted in severe injury if the collision had been more forceful or from another angle. Inspection/reproduction: On October 6, 2025, I brought the vehicle to Atlanta Toyota. Instead of documenting the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) and providing a report, the dealer cleared the fault code and recalibrated the system

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
A severe, pre-existing life-safety defect and unauthorized structural modification were discovered on my 2024 Toyota Corolla . Following a routine diagnostic check for vehicle pulling, certified Toyota technicians discovered that the vehicle's primary fuel line had been dangerously altered and was held together underneath the chassis by an unsecured wire clothes hanger. The vehicle was immediately grounded as an active fire and explosion hazard. A forensic vehicle inspection by a major insurance carrier (Traveler's) subsequently denied standard repair coverage, formally documenting that the wire-rigged fuel system was a pre-existing mechanical defect resulting from previous work done prior

I was involved in a vehicle accident Mar. 31, 2026. And only the side curtain air bags deployed. Neither driverside steering wheel airbag (which caused me to fracture my sternum) nor the passanger side airbag deployed.

Subject / Issue: Child car seat caused vehicle seat belt to become permanently jammed Complaint: I am reporting a safety-related issue involving an Evenflo Revolve 360 child car seat. During normal use, the vehicle seat belt became slightly twisted inside the car seat base, and the seat stopped rotating properly. We were then unable to remove the child car seat from the base following the standard removal instructions. While attempting to safely remove the seat, the vehicle seat belt became completely jammed inside the base. The seat belt is now fully immobilized and cannot move in either direction. As a result, the child car seat is permanently stuck in the vehicle, and the seat belt

On 6/7 while driving 65 mph I hit a deer on the driver front. My car detected the crash and deployed every airbag inside the car. I received an injury to my legs from the driver's airbag under my steering wheel. If this airbag were not there, I would have had no injuries from this accident. I have missed work and was seen at the local ED for treatment.

SERVICE BRAKES
I was driving my 2024 Toyota Corolla SE gas model (with the convenience package) on the interstate in [XXX] during stop-and-go traffic. Traffic had been moving slowly for about 15 minutes, and I had Brake Hold turned on, cruise control was off, Proactive Driving Assist was on. I was behind a semi truck and was moving very slowly, getting ready to stop. I had maybe 3 or 4 car lengths between me and the semi so they could see me in their mirrors. As I was about to stop, the brake pedal suddenly went all the way to the floor, the car jerked to a stop, and the electronic/emergency parking brake applied on its own. I put the car into Park and then back into Drive, and the problem did not happen

Where these numbers come from

A complaint is one owner's account and has not been verified by NHTSA or by us. A vehicle with more complaints is not necessarily worse: models that sold in larger numbers collect more of them. How this is counted.
