A complaint is an unverified account by the person who filed it, not a finding of fault. One complaint is one ODI number, which is how NHTSA counts them.

A recall is the manufacturer conceding a defect, and the repair is free. Whether one covers your particular car is a question only its VIN can answer, because a campaign covers a production range rather than a model year.

Crash test ratings

NHTSA New Car Assessment Program

NHTSA has not crash tested the 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. Its New Car Assessment Program tests a selection of each year's vehicles and does not reach motorcycles, heavy trucks, motorhomes or most low-volume models, so an absence here says nothing about how the vehicle would perform. It is not a low score.

What owners have reported about this vehicle is below, and it is a different question: a crash test measures what happens to the people inside in a controlled impact, while a complaint records what broke during ordinary use.

SERVICE BRAKES

I am reporting a serious and extremely concerning brake failure involving my 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 Diesel. Traffic ahead of me began to slow down. I saw the traffic slowing and immediately began applying the brakes to slow my vehicle. Although I was pressing the brake pedal, the truck was not slowing or stopping as it should have. When I realized the vehicle was not going to stop, I pressed the brake pedal as hard as I possibly could. The brake pedal went completely down to the floor, yet the vehicle still failed to stop, resulting in a collision. I want to be very clear: I saw traffic slowing, I applied the brakes, and when the truck failed to respond properly, I applied maximum

towed · 24,052 miles

The contact owns a 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle and depressing the brake pedal, there was a grinding sound coming from the front passenger's side wheel. Later, while driving slowly toward a stop sign, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to respond and traveled through a four-lane intersection. The vehicle was driven to a local service center where the failure recurred while reversing into a parking space, and the vehicle struck a curb. Upon removing the front passenger's side wheel, an independent mechanic discovered that the inner brake pad was missing and the brake caliper was lodged against the brake rotor. The

FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL

towed · 9,100 miles

The contact owns a 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. While driving 65 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and the steering wheel seized, and the brakes failed to stop the vehicle. White smoke with a burning odor was coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was on an incline, which helped the vehicle to decelerate. The contact pulled off the road and came to a stop with smoke billowing under the hood. A Sheriff driving by called the fire department. The fire fighters arrived and determined that the smoke had become extinguished. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who determined that the fuel line had ruptured and there was diesel fuel collecting inside the engine compartment. The

STEERING
Two steering issues on the same 2026 Silverado 2500 HD LTZ Trail Boss Z71, 6.6L gas, truck has about 11,000 miles as of 09/29/2026. 1. Mechanical clunk heard and felt through the steering wheel over bumps and when the wheel is at full lock. Assist is still present; the wheel does not spin free. This matches wear/lash in the upper intermediate steering shaft (the collapsible shaft between the column and the steering gear), not the tilt mechanism. Fluid is not low and there is no visible leak. 2. Separate hissing / hydraulic-flow noise heard inside the cab from the column area when tension is applied to the wheel. There is no hydraulic fluid in the column; the noise is conducted up the shaft

UNKNOWN OR OTHER
There is an incredible reliance on navigation and communication while driving. This and many other vehicles have intermittent disconnects to CarPlay This causes inattentive decisions while attempting to reconnect. I have personally had two trips to dealership with no resolution numerous photos showing loss of communication with vehicles main information center.

If this is your car and a dealer keeps failing to fix it, your state's lemon law may require the manufacturer to replace it or buy it back. How many repair attempts it takes, and how long you have to file, is set by the state you bought in and by nothing on this page.

Where these numbers come from

A complaint is one owner's account and has not been verified by NHTSA or by us. A vehicle with more complaints is not necessarily worse: models that sold in larger numbers collect more of them. How this is counted.
