Owners of the 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid have filed 110 safety complaints with NHTSA between August 2021 and August 2026. The most complained-about system is the engine, named in 40 of them (36%). The typical failure was reported at 20,000 miles, the median across the 15 complaints that gave an odometer reading.

Complaints fell 43% year on year: 12 in the twelve months to 2026-Q1, against 21 in the twelve before.

No recall campaign was matched to this year, make and model. That is not the same as a clean vehicle: recalls are issued against production ranges, and the only reliable check is your own VIN.

Defect investigations (1)

An investigation means NHTSA has decided a pattern is worth examining. A preliminary evaluation is often closed with no action; an engineering analysis is the stage that usually precedes a recall.

the electrical system

NHTSA received a petition on or about July 18, 2022, requesting that Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the United States. The petition can be reviewed at NHTSA.gov under ODI Number 11486072. FMVSS 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 KG or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after March 1, 2021.On January 27, 2023, NHTSA opened Defect Petition (DP) 22-005 to evaluate the subject matter described in the petition. On June 24, 2023 and as supplemented on June 25, 2023, the petitioner notified NHTSA he was withdrawing his petition. The petitioner indicated that, based on his review of data, there is no justification for asserting potential benefits that could be derived from actions sought by my petition. Based on the petitioner's withdrawal, DP22-005 is closed. Closure of this DP does not represent a determination by NHTSA regarding the subject matter of the petition.

Thankfully we are alive. We were going at speed and he attempted to pass me on the median, grass and rumble strips. He was inches away from my rear bumper, riding me. When I put the turn signal to move away from him he hit my driver’s side rear panel (side swiped), thank God it didn't turn into a pit maneuver and killed us. He then proceeded to take off. So one thing I have to say is, the vehicle has great pick up. I called 911 and went after him to get his lic plate. When I got to be about 10 car lengths or so, he slammed his brakes. Since I was on the left lane, I could not keep going left and risk going into oncoming traffic. Plus, there was a car on the right lane I slammed the brakes

5/17/23 took vehicle to Dick Smith Hyundai for navigation issue, after being asked to park in a different spot brakes failed and car crashed into one of the dealer cars. Since owning the car for over 14 months without any brake issue I thought maybe my foot slipped off the brake. When leaving the dealer I tried braking several times with no issue. 5/26/23 while parking the car at a restaurant the brakes failed me again and was obvious not a slip off the brake that caused the car to collide with a tree saving me and my wife from falling down a steep embankment. Severe damage to front of car. 5/27/23 Called Dick Smith Hyundai to ask about how to remedy an obvious safety issue with the brake,

I turned right into my driveway at a slow speed. As I went onto the driveway, the car surged forward. To avoid driving into the garage door, I turned to the left to drive along the side of my house thinking I would be able to stop it. I kept hitting the break but the car kept going. When the vehicle did not stop, I steered to the right because I thought it could be possible that my neighbor's dog could be in the adjacent yard (to the left of my house) The ground between the houses is pitched down (to the left) towards my house and I side-swiped the back half of the side of my house. Although applying the break, my car continued after sideswiping the side of my house with the front right

My vehicle takes over my breaks and completely takes control of my vehicle away from me (the driver). It does this randomly. I had a hit and run in a parking lot due to this issue. I am greatly concerned for my safety.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
While driving my 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid, the vehicle suddenly lost power, began shaking, and all warning lights illuminated at once. The car would not accelerate properly and became unsafe to operate in traffic. After pulling over and restarting the vehicle, the warnings cleared, but the issue has occurred more than once. It first occurred 3/25/26. The dealer was not able to reproduce the issue but found numerous faults and reset them. This is a serious safety concern because the vehicle can unexpectedly lose motor power while driving, creating a risk of collision. The problem is intermittent and unpredictable.

ENGINE
I am reporting a critical Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve and electrical circuit failure on my 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid. The failure resulted in the check engine light illuminating, diagnostic codes identifying an EGR system malfunction, and visible corrosion found within the EGR connector and extension harness. This component breakdown causes severe performance risks, risk of sudden loss of engine power, and compromises vehicle safety. Diagnostic & Technical Details: Error Codes Captured: Diagnostic trouble codes in the P0400 series (EGR system flow/circuit malfunction) along with connector/wiring degradation were confirmed during inspection. Root Cause & Symptoms: The failure

On XXX the vehicle lost motive power while my wife was accelerating to merge onto a highway with our two young children aboard. It would not accelerate and she was forced to pull over in an active merge area. Simultaneous warnings illuminated: Electronic Parking Brake, ESC, Forward Collision Avoidance, Blind Spot Detection, and hybrid system, with "Check Hybrid System" displayed. No crash or injury occurred, but loss of propulsion during a highway merge created serious collision risk. This is a recurring defect documented since early 2023: Hyundai's own Blue Link telematics auto-flagged an Engine Control System DTC on XXX; a jump-start was required XXX (dealer RO #XXX); check engine light

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
This is the 4th time that a new fuel pump has been replaced on this 2022 Hyundai Tucson hybrid. I think the car part needs a recall because the fuel pump keeps breaking.

The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving, after an hour, the vehicle was shaking and shuddering abnormally and the vehicle lost motive power. The driver was unable to maintain a steady speed while driving the vehicle. The vehicle was making an abnormal sound while driving at 60 MPH, and the vehicle was struggling to accelerate. There were no warning lights illuminated. The blue link indicated that the failure was associated with DTC: P03600. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who was unable to retrieve a diagnostic trouble code. The vehicle was diagnosed as needing the fluid, tires, and brakes to be changed, and the low jack to be removed. The

My 2025 Mazda CX-5 has an intermittent defect that causes Android phones connected to Android Auto through the vehicle's USB-C port to unexpectedly perform a complete device reboot while the vehicle is being driven. The problem began in August 2025 after I purchased a Google Pixel 9. I initially believed the phone was defective and spent several months troubleshooting the phone. After the same problem occurred with my son's Google Pixel 10, I determined the issue was not phone-specific. I reported the problem to Mastria Mazda in March/April 2026 and returned again in May 2026. I opened a case with Mazda Customer Experience on June 4, 2026. The vehicle software has been updated, but the

Where these numbers come from

A complaint is one owner's account and has not been verified by NHTSA or by us. A vehicle with more complaints is not necessarily worse: models that sold in larger numbers collect more of them. How this is counted.
