The defect
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Nissan Murano, 2016-2018 Nissan Maxima, and 2017-2019 Nissan Pathfinder and Infiniti QX60 vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and unrepaired, or inspected and determined to not need a repair, under recall number 18V-601. In addition, this recall expands the previous population. The Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) actuator pumps may allow brake fluid to leak onto an internal circuit board.
The risk
A brake fluid leak on the circuit board may result in an electrical short, increasing the risk of a fire.
The remedy
Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ABS actuator, free of charge. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available, currently expected to be during summer 2020. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Note: If the ABS warning light remains illuminated for more than 10 seconds after engine start up, owners are advised to park the vehicle outdoors away from other vehicles or structures and to not drive the vehicle.

WE WERE HIT IN A REAR-END COLLISION, AND THE PERSON HITTING US WAS TRAVELING AT 60-65 MPH. WE WERE AT A STOP, IN A LINE OF TRAFFIC ON THE FREEWAY UPON IMPACT. BOTH OF THE FRONT SEATS WE WERE SITTING IN, COLLAPSED BACKWARDS UPON IMPACT. FROM WHAT WE'VE RESEARCHED, IF WE HAD A BACK SEAT PASSENGER, IT WOULD HAVE CRUSHED THEM, OR WE COULD HAVE SLIPPED OUT OF OUR SEAT BELTS. OUR RESEARCH ALSO INDICATES THAT AN INEXPENSIVE FIX MIGHT AVOID THE ISSUE FOR FUTURE PEOPLE WHO EXPERIENCE A REAR END COLLISION. THE INFINITI PERFORMED WELL WITH AIRBAGS, AND CRUMPLE ZONES... SAVED OUR LIVES, HOWEVER, THIS SEAT PROBLEM COULD ULTIMATELY PROVE TO BE A FUTURE PROBLEM.

MY CAR HYDROPLANED AND EVERYTHING SHUT OFF. THE BRAKES AND STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD DO TO PREVENT THE ACCIDENT. I WAS DRIVING UNDER THE SPEED LIMIT AND WAS NOT ENGAGED IN ANY RECKLESS MANEUVERING. I FELT THE CAR SLIDE IN AN UNNATURAL DIRECTION AND WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO COUNTER CORRECT I FOUND THE STEERING WHEEL HAD LOCKED. I NEXT TRIED THE BRAKES WHICH WERE ALSO UNRESPONSIVE. THE VEHICLE SLIDE INTO THE CENTER DIVIDER ON THE FREEWAY AND I SLOWLY ROLLED TO A STOP. UPON COMING TO A STOP THERE WAS A STRANGE ODOR IN THE CABIN OF THE CAR, SOME SORT OF FUME. I TRIED THE GAS PEDDLE BUT THE ENGINE WAS UNRESPONSIVE AS WELL. I WAS PUSHED OFF THE HIGHWAY BY

POWER TRAIN
The Infiniti QX 60 with the CVT Transmission has been a safety issue in the model year 2015- 2018. I was driving the vehicle on 3/18/2026 when the transmission stopped and cause my car to stop in traffic almost causing me to be in an accident. The car was tolled to the Infiniti dealership and I was later told that my vehicle was included in the CVT transmission settlement however it expired in August 2025 and said they will not repair I had to pay out of pocket.

POWER TRAIN
The continuous variable transmission (CVT) in my 2017 Infiniti QX60 failed due to faulty components. They are failing to cover the repair and take accountability for the faulty equipment even though they have admitted to the part quality issue.

ENGINE
While driving, the vehicle displayed an engine malfunction warning followed by a low oil pressure warning. I pulled over and waited. The oil level was checked and was not empty. The warning lights briefly went out, but shortly afterward the engine lost power. When attempting to restart the vehicle, the engine began knocking. The vehicle became inoperable and required towing. This was a sudden engine failure with no prior indication of oil loss, leak, or neglect. This created a safety concern due to sudden loss of power while driving.

ENGINE
The car died suddenly while driving. The battery is only a few months old. Prior to dying a few warning lamps suddenly came on but there was no prior warning. The engine did not overheat, there was no smoke, or check engine light until the car suddenly died. I have been advised that I need a new engine. I have been researching and it appears many others have similar issues with their Infiniti engines. Its [XXX] Please look into this. It’s odd to me that so many folks engines have died at what is actually low mileage. It’s also pretty frustrating and depressing, the repairs can go up to the cost of a new vehicle, when this appears to be a design flaw. I’m starting to meet way to many folks

Where these numbers come from

A complaint is one owner's account and has not been verified by NHTSA or by us. A vehicle with more complaints is not necessarily worse: models that sold in larger numbers collect more of them. How this is counted.
